§ A worn-out ball joint that cannot be replaced separately is one of the most common reasons.

A ball joint is an extremely important component. Loose ball joints are generally caused by torn or missing dust boots allowing contaminates inside the joint to cause noise. If a ball joint fails completely it can cause a complete loss of control, putting you and any passengers in serious danger. Moreover, the wheel with a damaged bushing will begin to wobble while driving.
