440 HP BMW M240i Drag Races Tuned BMW M2 on Autobahn

The introduction of the BMW M240i saw BMW launch their brand new B58 3-liter straight six engine into their smallest model in the range. At first, it also seemed to be bad news for tuners, who initially thought that the new mill was not one particularly prone to be tuned. However, as time went by and engineers had some time to go over its design, new tuning packages started to pop up. Today, with a JB4 for tune and some other small tweaks, the M240i can be had with over 400 HP.

It’s the case of the car posted in the video below, drag racing its meaner brother, the full-on M2. Even though the two share a platform and a lot of their parts, there are important differences between at play here, setting them apart, especially in standard guise. As I mentioned, the M Performance automobile can be tuned and the one duking it out here with the M2 has gone through quite a transformation.

The B58 engine now makes 441 HP and no less than 559 Nm (412 lb-ft) of torque. That’s not only due to the JB4 tune but also thanks to a BMW air intake and a custom exhaust, to handle the extra fumes leaving the engine. On the other hand, the BMW M2 uses an enhanced version of the N55 mill developed to make 370 HP and 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque with the amount of twist going up to 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque for short burst, thanks to overboost.

The uploader doesn’t provide an exact number for the M car but it does claim that it was fitted with new cats and a larger diameter exhaust, so we’re probably looking at a car with closer to 400 HP here. Nevertheless, as you’re about to see, that wasn’t nearly enough to keep up with the massive upgrades the B58 engine is working with.
